The Applied Interior Design course was designed to merge the two disciplines associated with Interior Design: Spatial design and decorative finishes. This is quite a unique course as most others offer one or the other. We follow a diverse path of study, from hand rendering, technical drawings, computer software, to hands on practical activities including printing, 3d workshop activities and specialist decorative effects. The course aims that students will find their own path and could end up in careers such as Interior Designer, Consultant, Architectural technician and with transferable skills that could take them in to the realms of tv, film and theatre set design, exhibition design and beyond.

With the increasing demand of virtual reality in the design world we focus a lot on the visualisation of proposals, but understand the importance of the joy and learning process from employing practical work and human interaction.

The course enjoys an annual overseas trip to enrich cultural awareness. Previous trips have included Venice, Rome, and Barcelona, which have all been a great success and enrich the students experience on the course. Each module involves a real life brief, and many visits to associated exhibitions underpin the projects too.  We have visiting lecturers from specialist fields who lead modules, such as the module “Ethics and Sustainability”, which is a paramount subject in the consideration of the responsibility of the designer in the modern world.

Our aim is to offer a course that is valid in today’s design and construction world, and will help form the environments we all strive to achieve for future generations.
